Match Play 2010

The January, February, and March tournaments at Victoria, LA Royal Vista and Redhawk will be qualifying rounds for the 2010 Club Match Play tournament. If you play in all tournaments, the lower of your three rounds will count toward qualifying. The finalists in each flight last year (Rich Hoag, Gale King, Mike Blanco, and Tim Looney) automatically qualify. The remaining 28 spots will be determined by your net qualifying score. There is a $10 entry fee for match play. If you're entering match play, just include the $10 fee in your check for one of the first three qualifying tournaments. If you pay at the second round, you'll have two chances of qualifying. If you pay at the third round, you'll have one chance of qualifying.

There will be two brackets (flights) for match play. The 16 players with the lowest indexes at the finish of match play qualifying will be in the upper bracket and the 16 players with the highest indexes at the finish of match play qualifying will be in the lower bracket. Seeding for each bracket is determined by the qualifying round scores.

  1. Matches will be played during the normal monthly SOS tournaments.

  1. A player with a match will be allowed one absence from the scheduled tournament. The missed match must be made up by the Monday preceding the next SOS tournament at a course and time mutually agreeable by both players.

  1. If the makeup match is not completed by the Monday preceding the next tournament, the player absent from the tournament with the scheduled match will forfeit that makeup match. If both players were absent from the tournament with the scheduled match, both will forfeit to the opponent in the next round.

  1. After the one allowed absence, the player will forfeit any match if absent from a following tournament.

  1. The "pick-your-tee" option will be available for matches during SOS tournament play. This rule also applies to makeup matches.

  1. We will use 75% of the current month's handicap, rounded up or down to a whole number.

  1. The player with the higher handicap receives the difference in handicap strokes according to the handicap ratings of the tees that he or she is playing.

  1. Remember: Matches will be played using the current index when the match is played, applied to the correct tees for handicap, and 75% of that taken. The handicap will be different than the tournament handicap. In SOS tournaments, the player's tournament handicap is shown on the official match play card. The opponents will mutually determine handicaps based on these principles for a makeup match. If help is required to compute a handicap adjustment for a makeup match, contact Pat Hughes or Rich Hoag.
